Golden Milk might leave some people left confused here in the United States, but in parts of Japan and other parts of the world, Golden Milk is a way of life! Golden milk is a turmeric based beverage that packs a mean punch.  Many Japanese natives drink this tea daily! Numerous studies have linked turmeric with wide-ranging anti-inflammatory effects, which is the root of most disease and illness! Maybe this helps to explain why the people of Okinawa, Japan have one of the world’s longest average life spans: 81.2 years.  They just might be on to something!

You might most commonly find turmeric in Indian dishes like curry or American condiments like mustard.  It’s a deep yellow-orange herb and has a spicy kick.  You wouldn’t want to take a big heaping spoonful and pop it in your mouth.  It would leave you really uncomfortable and really, really yellow.  (Yes, it stains, so be careful!) But when you mix turmeric into a beverage along with sweetness like honey, cinnamon and vanilla like this Golden Milk recipe, you end up with a pretty great tasting sipping session!  We pour our magical Golden Milk into our Healthy Human 20 oz Cruiser in Natural Wood

First, you will want to make your Golden Milk Paste.  You will need a stainless steel pot and a stove or cooktop.  Take some organic turmeric powder, water and black pepper (the black pepper helps your body absorb the active ingredient curcumin in the turmeric).  Cook it up for about 10 minutes or so and then remove from heat.  Once you remove your magic mixture from the heat, go ahead and add in coconut oil and whisk it to mix it all together.  Don’t you love coconut oil? You can literally use it on anything.  Cuts, scrapes, chapped lips, on your skin, in your hair, on your legs…. you can just pour it over everything in your life and all will be well in the world! <3

Now that you made your Golden Paste, you take a teaspoon of it and combine it with milk in a pot.  Heat it up, but be sure not to bring it to a boil.  (Boiling certain foods for too long can deplete the nutrients!).  This is also where you can add your vanilla, honey and/or cinnamon.   You can use any milk you wish.  If you are dairy-free feel free to try plant-based alternatives like almond milk, coconut milk, cashew milk or hemp milk.  Depending on which milk you use, your Golden Milk may be on the thinner side or thicker side.  Whole cow’s milk is going to give you a thicker beverage, while something like almond milk will be a bit thinner.  However, both will taste amazing! All of those milks could work well for this Golden Milk recipe.  Hey, maybe it will even replace your morning cup of Joe! What… too soon?
