Have a migraine? Try this Lavender & Basil Green Tea! Green tea has been used for relieving migraine headaches for decades and also has a lot of other really great health benefits too!   From boosting the immune system to weight loss, green tea has really gained quite the reputation.  It is loaded with antioxidants that get rid of those risky “free-radicals” that cause cancers and other things that we want to stay far away from!  This recipe is for a hot tea, but if you’re more of an iced-tea kind of guy or gal, you can easily convert to cold.  Just brew your tea bag as normal then let it sit until it’s room temperature, and then pour over ice into your Healthy Human 20oz. For your tea, we would recommend finding a good quality organic green tea brand.  Or, even better, find a local shop that sells loose green tea leaves and put the leaves in a stainless steel tea ball for steeping.  A tea ball is just a funny name for a mesh contraption that snaps closed and can encase your loose tea in water without everything spilling out!

Once you have your green tea under control, make sure you have fresh lavender and basil.  You can likely get basil from your local grocery store and you can find lavender flowers in a health food store or online (Hello, Amazon!).  Other than the lavender, basil and green tea you won’t have to worry about much else aside from honey.  We recommend raw and local honey for the best health benefits.  Honey is a great sweetener of choice because its not processed and works with the body instead of against it, like that white sugar that plagues every sweet treat you love.  Cookies, candy, donuts, cakes…you get the picture.   Honey also has some pretty honorable antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidant properties!  Lavender doesn’t disappoint either.  If you have ever traveled to Europe around Italy and Croatia, you will see lavender everywhere. In every shop, road-side stand and farmer’s market you see.  The natives swear by this herb for its stress relieving, calming qualities as well as its ability to soothe the skin, reduce inflammation and much more.

RECIPE:
– one bag of green tea
– 2 medium basil leaves, crushed with your hands
– 1 tbsp of lavender leaves, crushed with your hands (or 1 tbsp of fresh lavender flowers, or about 1/2 tbsp of dried Lavender flowers are ok too)
– 1 1/2 cups of boiling water
– a little honey (optional)
Method:
In a tea or coffee mug, add green tea bag, crushed basil, crushed lavender, honey, and fill with the hot water. Let it steep for for no longer than 3-4 mins.
