This is a latte that will bring you benefits in every sip! This Turmeric Latte might sound a little odd if you and Turmeric aren’t tight just yet.  Turmeric is a spice and has been used in India for thousands of years.  Some experts even agree that turmeric could be the most effective nutritional supplement in existence! Some even refer to this beverage as “Golden Milk”.  It’s not made of gold, but could be the next best thing!   Turmeric has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant.  It has a bitter, slightly aromatic taste so you won’t exactly want to take a heaping spoonful of it on its own. However, when it is mixed in with sweetness like honey, maple syrup and cinnamon, it becomes a really great tasting treat!   If you aren’t familiar with turmeric, just use a little bit for your first latte. If you are a Turmeric Novice, well then pour in a little more!

You will need a stove or cooktop for this recipe because you will be bringing your turmeric latte to a boil, then letting it simmer for about 10 minutes or so to infuse and bring out the wonderful flavors.   You can use any milk that you love, but we recommend a plant milk like almond milk instead of a dairy milk.  We love to use Malk Pure Almond Milk because their milks contain only high-quality, organic ingredients and are naturally flavored with yumminess like organic maple syrup, organic vanilla and Himalayan sea salt.

In our Turmeric Latte, we use a pinch of ground black pepper.  This helps with the absorption of the curcumin (The active ingredient in turmeric).  We also add in fresh grated ginger.  Ginger is great for the stomach and can also aid in better digestion.   The ginger definitely adds a little kick to the latte, so if you want to start out slow, add less or omit it for your first turmeric latte experience.   Also, if you are adding the ginger chunks, be sure to strain your latte before drinking so you don’t wonder why you’re chewing on your latte instead of sipping!  We pour these luscious lattes into our Healthy Human 20oz. Cruiser in Mulberry color.  With our Healthy Human Cruisers, your latte will be nice and warm for up to 12 hours… even though we’re sure you’ll probably guzzle it down in like 20 minutes flat.  It’s that good!!

This latte might even end up replacing your morning cup of “C”.  Yeah, we said it.  The “C” Word.  COFFEE.   I know, we will tread lightly here, as we don’t want to impede upon your monogamous relationship with your Morning cup of Joe.  But truth be told, many people have given up their coffee fix for this health boosting bev! Seriously!!

If you aren’t letting go of your coffee, we understand that too.  Go check out our Creamy Butter Coffee recipe for a coffee you’re just going to L-OV-E!

RECIPE SOURCE:  Nutriliciously

1 cup unsweetened plant milk or any milk you regularly use
1 cup water or if you like it creamier replace water with another cup of plant milk
1/4-1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger ( I like strong ginger flavor)**
1/2 tablespoon sweetener: local honey or maple syrup (if you need the latte sweet)
1/8 – 3/4 teaspoon ground turmeric** ( for first timers to experienced turmeric user)
1 cinnamon stick or ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon**
small pinch of ground black pepper ( it helps with absorption of curcumin in turmeric)
** notice I give a range, start with a little and increase as needed

Place all ingredients in a small saucepan and bring to a boil, whisk to combine ingredients.
Reduce heat to a bare simmer for up to 10 minutes for the flavors to infuse and intensify.
Strain the milk.
Serve hot or warm sweetened ( optional) and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
The star anise is not in the drink, I used it as a pretty garnish.
